ADVOCACY. EDUCATION. COMMUNITY.

As the chamber of commerce for the cannabis industry in Oklahoma, our primary purpose is to advocate for the industry before policymakers at every level of government, but this includes more than simply lobbying. The OCIA conducts constant industry research and data collection to provide the best information to our members and policymakers, as well as, regular networking events, educational forums, and supply chain growth opportunities. At OCIA, we believe it is necessary to shift the paradigm surrounding cannabis from an approach of controlling an illegal narcotic to policies built upon supporting a new agricultural commodity and opportunities for medical innovation. This starts with implementing public policy that reflects a business friendly environment, supports patient accessibility and medical research, and helps position Oklahoma as a national leader in cannabis production and product development in advance of national decriminalization. Our goal is the establishment of an innovative, industry-leading cannabis industry in Oklahoma built upon industry collaboration, community partnerships, enhanced market development and analysis, and a robust presence at our policy making institutions.

PUBLIC POLICY

Our staff and members work extensively with Oklahoma House and Senate members, our Congressional delegation, regulatory agencies, and local governments to advance legislative and regulatory policies supporting a friendly environment for Oklahoma’s cannabis industry, ensuring access for patients, and forging new opportunities for economic development. Our members determine our policy priorities, which our staff and leadership team take to our policymakers to educate them on the dynamics facing our industry and possible solutions. From the Capitol to local town halls, we are dedicated to educating policymakers on critical issues for our industry. Our monthly OCIA Policy & Pints events feature discussions with key regulators and policymakers, while our OCIA In the Field features facility tours for policymakers to learn about our industry followed by dinner with OCIA members.

Who We Are

Formed in 2017 as New Health Solutions Oklahoma, Inc. as the primary financial supporter and manager of the Vote Yes on SQ788 campaign to legalize medical marijuana in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Cannabis Industry Association, a 501c6 chamber of commerce, has effectively advocated for cannabis enterprises and related ancillary businesses before the United States Congress, Oklahoma Legislature, regulatory agencies, and local governments.

Our membership, from mom-and-pops to vertically integrated outfits, includes diverse enterprises and interests related to the research, development, production, processing, manufacturing, testing, distributing, and transporting of medical cannabis, industrial hemp and cannabis related products, in addition to individuals and entities providing ancillary services such as banking, finance, marketing, legal, branding, consulting, and infrastructure.

OCIA staff and members participated extensively with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Legislative Working Group, presented cannabis policy recommendations to the American Legislative Exchange Council National Conference, and provided policy recommendations to the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, and the Oklahoma State Department of Health, with OCIA Executive Director Bud Scott and OCIA member Becky Johnson being appointed to the Food Safety Standards Board for marijuana edibles regulations. We’ve proudly worked with regulators to understand the cannabis industry and helped our members identify potential financial investment, supply chain opportunities, and development partnerships across Oklahoma. We’re proud to have tirelessly fought for the establishment of Oklahoma’s cannabis industry and will continue to defend it’s growth through advocacy, research, stakeholder education, and community partnerships.

Our goal is the establishment of an innovative, national-leading cannabis industry in Oklahoma built upon industry collaboration, community partnerships, enhanced market development and analysis, effective public relations, and a robust presence at our policy making institutions.
